A great bill of North East boxing has got even better after the announcement that former British bantamweight champion, Stuart Hall, has been added to the Hartlepool Borough Hall show on March 25.
Hall, Darlington’s first ever British champion, is on the comeback trail after losing his title last year to current king Jamie McDonnell, and the exciting little battler will be determined to make a statement as he vies to get back in contention for another crack at his old belt.
“Stuey Hall has proven that he’s one of the best fighters in the UK, so it’s fantastic to get him on this show,” said promoter Phil Jeffries. “He’s an exciting boxer who has headlined shows on Sky Sports before, so fight fans in the region can expect to see quality in action.”
Appearing alongside Hall on the bill will be a mix of proven operators as well as future stars of the ring. Former super-bantamweight world title challenger, and local hero, Michael Hunter will make his ring return after a two year absence, while Sunderland cruiserweight Dave Dolan attempts to get back to winning ways after losing last time out to Jon-Lewis Dickinson. Unbeaten local favourite, Peter Cope Jnr, will be hoping for his fifth straight win, similarly Fishburn’s Gary Fox is looking for victory number seven after eight pro starts. The show will also be a memorable occasion for former Middlesbrough amateur prospects Mohammed Waqas and Shafiq ‘Chubzy’ Asif, as well as Horden’s Greg O’Neil, who all make their professional debuts on the undercard.
“Hartlepool’s had some great nights of boxing over the years with Michael Hunter, and the atmosphere in the Borough Hall will be electric again for his comeback fight,” reiterated Jeffries. “Throw in Peter Cope’s ‘Barmy Army’ supporters, and with the other quality fighters on the bill, there’s no doubting that we’re bringing professional boxing back to the North East in style. The interest has been amazing and this show is looking like a sell-out already.”
